  • Alabama driver’s licenses expire four years after issuance.

  • The expiration date is printed on the license.

  • Alabama no longer mails renewal notices for your license; however, you will get a reminder 30 days after expiration.

  • Alabama law allows a 60-day grace period after expiration (valid for driving within Alabama).

  • You can renew your license early, up to 180 days before it expires.

  • Licenses can be renewed without testing for up to 3 years after expiration.

You'll take a new photo and signature whenever you come into our office to renew or duplicate your license.

Please note: Our office offers license renewals and duplicates as a courtesy service to the public, but we are not part of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). Any issues with license processing, delays, or system errors are handled directly by ALEA. For questions or concerns about your license status, we encourage you to contact ALEA or Public Safety directly, as they oversee all licensing matters statewide.
